Phidippus vexans — West Texas Red Jumping Spider
The West Texas Red Jumping Spider (Phidippus vexans) is a stunning and charismatic jumping spider native to the arid landscapes of west Texas and the surrounding region. Like all Phidippus, this species is defined by its large, forward-facing principal eyes that give it an almost comically expressive face — and an undeniable personality to match. Males display vivid red-orange coloration on the abdomen, making them one of the most visually striking jumping spiders found in North America.
Jumping spiders are widely regarded as the most personable spiders in the hobby. P. vexans is alert, curious, and highly interactive — they will actively track your movements and investigate anything that catches their attention. They are diurnal hunters, stalking prey with precision before launching an impressive leap. Watching one hunt is genuinely entertaining.
