Description

Hadrurus arizonensis pallidus — Giant Blonde Desert Hairy Scorpion

The largest scorpion native to North America, and one of the most impressive display animals in the hobby. Hadrurus arizonensis pallidus, the Giant Blonde Desert Hairy Scorpion, is a pale, sandy-blonde subspecies of the iconic Desert Hairy — and it wears two of the most distinctive field marks in the hobby: a pale blonde body that practically glows under UV, and a bold, dark crescent moon marking arching across the eyes. It’s immediately recognizable and endlessly photogenic.

Native to the Sonoran and Mojave Deserts, this is a robust, long-lived scorpion that thrives in a dry, arid setup with deep substrate for burrowing. It’s an active hunter and a confident animal — not shy about making itself seen. Venom is mild relative to other scorpion species, but caution is always warranted. Exceptional specimens have been recorded reaching up to 7", making this the undisputed heavyweight of North American scorpions. A true centerpiece species.
